Thomas Kinkade is America's most collected living artist, and the adventure that
he's taken to get there is a fascinating and compelling story. While growing up in
the small town of Placerville, California, the young Thomas Kinkade embraced a
series of simple life-affirming ideals that later would shape his future and his
art. Thomas uses his artistic gift as a way to communicate and spread the life-affirming values he embraced during his formative years. As he matured into adulthood, Kinkade began to explore the world around him with
enthusiasm and fervor.
Thomas Kinkade, born in 1958, grew up in a small quiet town in California named
Placerville along the foothills of the Sierra Mountains. By age six, his interest
in art was obviously growing at an impressive rate and by age sixteen he was
already accomplished enough in oil painting to begin working as an apprentice to
California painter Glen Wessels.
Thomas Kinkade also pursued other artistic ventures, such as co-authoring a book
while traveling across the country in a boxcar with a past college roommate .
"Like the Luminists, I strive for three visual aspects in my work: soft edges,
a warm palette and an overall sense of light."
